’13 Assassins’ Fashion Collection // Marianna Barksdale

’13 Assassins’ is based on Takashi Miike’s film “13 Assassins.” Miike illustrates the tale of 13 samurai in feudal Japan who decide to break the Bushido (the samurai code) to launch a suicide mission to kill an evil lord. Like the traditional samurai armor, Marianna Barksdale wanted the garments to provide a balance between protection and movement.

Some can be worn to fight, travel and defend; other garments are meant for meditation and repose. Marianna’s muse is Lisbeth Salander, the “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” hard-boiled, scuffed, and armed, protecting herself without losing the gentle tether of vulnerability at her core.
