Beautiful Surreal Paintings // Vasilis Avramidis

4

Vasilis Avramidis’s practice attempts to bring forward mixed and contradictory perceptions about life, care, death, decay and regeneration, paradise, memory, eternity and the painting tradition as a means to immortality.

Avramidis invents environments of uncertain identity, reminiscent of gardens, forests, ruins, cemeteries, sited on grounds that resemble still lives, portraits and details drawn from the tradition of western painting, or from recognizable genres of western art. Each oil painting employs certain fractions from the collective memory which Art history has created, to produce a dialogue with what is happening on the landscape.
