Toledo Metro Station // Oscar Tusquets Blanca

8

As part of Naples program for entrusting the design of metro stations to eminent international architects, it fell to us to design Toledo station, with a satellite entrance in the center of the Quartieri Spagnoli. Studio of Oscar Tusquets Blanca was also responsible for the urbanization of the squares situated above these entrances. The most striking feature of Toledo station is the immense crater that connects the level of the square above with the great lobby 38 meters below.

The final stretch of the Via Díaz, above the station, becomes a pedestrian plaza, which, amongst other functions, hosts a street market sheltering under a forest of rigid umbrellas. A particularly attractive feature of the project was the close collaboration with the prestigious fine artists who had been invited.
